Bloodhounds catch fire in win over Washington

Fort Madison was as white-hot as the color of their jerseys during Friday?s Southeast Conference game, going 15-for-21 from 3-point range in a 75-34 win over visiting Washington.

?They hit 15 threes,? Washington head coach Bryce Smeins said. ?They were 15-for-21 from three. We played zone, we played man and we played junk [defense]. They?re a very good basketball team and they out-played us in all aspects of the game.?

Sophomore Miles Wentzien went 7-for-8 from beyond the 3-point arc and scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Bloodhounds (10-7, 5-2 SEC). Senior John Nagel made a pair of trifectas and added 13 points, and senior Marcus Knipe sank two 3-pointers and scored 12 points. Senior Jacob Riley came off the bench to nail three 3-pointers and score nine points.

Senior Kyle Roder scored 12 points to lead Washington (4-13, 1-6 SEC), which lost its fourth straight game.

?I thought we played well at times,? Smeins said. ?I thought we ran our offense well and had pretty good looks in the first half, but we just didn?t shoot well.?

Washington hosts Mid-Prairie on Tuesday night. The Demons lost to the Golden Hawks 48-46 in their season opener on Nov. 27 in Wellman.

?We lost a close ballgame and had a chance to win,? Smeins said. ?It?s a rivalry game with a county school, so it should be an exciting night.?
