The Washington boys? soccer team couldn?t find the right formula to get past a conference foe on Thursday night.
Washington found themselves in a quick hole in the contest, and despite a second-half surge, fell to Fort Madison 7-2 in the contest.
?We allowed three goals early on with some through balls and some errors,? Washington boys? soccer head coach Sally Hart said. ?We were able to correct that partway through the first half, and at halftime I told them to focus and play our game.?
The Demons fell to 2-4 on the season and 0-2 in conference play with the loss.
The scoring got going early for the bloodhounds, after Noah Dean and Braxton Williams combined for three goals in the first 10 minutes of the game.
Tristen Dickerson added another goal in the 25th minute, making it a 4-0 halftime lead for the Bloodhounds.
?We were a little nervous,? Hart said. ?Fort Madison is a really strong team, and I?m excited to play them again, because I think our guys will be ready.?
In the second half, the Demons started to right the ship, earning a penalty kick, and Demon freshman Caleb Suchan made it count, putting Washington on the board.
The Demons made it two in a row in the 63rd minute, when Julio Salgado-Hernandez used a nice stutter step to create an opening in the Fort Madison defense to make it 4-2 Bloodhounds.
Fort Madison responded, however, as Dickerson and Williams completed hat tricks to put away the Demons.
Washington will look for its first conference win in its next game, on Monday at home against Mt. Pleasant.
