Blowouts headline boys basketball Friday

Union area boys basketball action Friday in three different conferences - Super Conference (21), River Valley (29) and South Iowa Cedar League (33) - saw big point differentials in games. Cardinal played the closest game Friday.
Tigers roll past Warriors
NEW LONDON - The Tigers pounced early for a 27-8 lead after the first quarter and had a 37-20 second half advantage in the South Division win over WACO 71-38 Friday.
Devvon Swanson led New London with 20 points. Kade Benjamin scored 14. Blaise Porter had nine, and Camden Kasel delivered eight.
WACO's Vincent Jones had eight points and Simeon Reichenbach seven, with four rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Pekin blasts Bulldogs
MEDIAPOLIS - Up by three at the end of the first quarter, eight after the second and 16 after three quarters, the visiting Panthers took the North Division game from Mediapolis, 61-40.
Brock Long led the Panther attack with 18 points and seven steals, adding five rebounds. Brayden Sobaski went for 12 points with five steals and four rebounds while Brady Millikin dished out four assists, put up nine points and took down six rebounds. Cael Lyle hammered the boards for eight rebounds and nailed eight points.
Tuesday Wapello travels to Pekin for a game between a pair of 2-0 teams.
Golden Hawks tame Tigers
TIPTON - A 16-3 first quarter advantage was 31-14 at the half and 47-18 after the third quarter for Mid-Prairie in a 54-25 River Valley Conference win over Tipton.
Four Golden Hawks reached double figures with Carter Harmsen at 17, Aidan Rath and Alex Bean both at 11 and Ethan Kos at 10. Harmsen and Kos each cleared 10 boards. Jack Pennington supplied seven assists and three steals.
Hammen, Sprouse carry Keota
BELLE PLAINE - Leading 20-12 after the first quarter, the Eagles made it a 44-20 halftime score on the way to a 63-30 South Iowa Cedar League win over the Plainsmen.
Luke Hammen and Carson Sprouse each went for 19 points with Hammen adding seven assists and Sprouse notching four rebounds, four steals and four assists. Bryce Greiner had 14 points and Brady Duwa contributed nine points, six rebounds, two assists and two blocks.
Warriors drop road game
BURLINGTON - The Van Buren County defense couldn't contain a fiery Notre Dame squad in the Warriors' second South Division game of the year. Notre Dame ran past VBC 84-48.
Despite the loss, Jackson Manning had a big game scoring, putting up 26 points. Lane Davis had 11.
Becker scores 24 for Comets
FORT MADISON - The Cardinal boys pushed Holy Trinity in the South Division game's fourth quarter, but the Crusaders ousted the Comets 68-59 in Cardinal's first game of the season.
Cardinal trailed 44-30 entering the last quarter but cut the game down to five points before HTC clamped down. Landon Becker went for 24 points and Griffin Greiner scored 15.
Falcons sink Columbus
LETTS - The Wildcats rallied in the second quarter to cut the deficit out of double figures to 30-21, but Louisa-Muscatine had a 17-8 third quarter on the way to a 55-34 North Division win.
