Bontrager’s top 10 finish leads Hillcrest

CENTER POINT - Leah Bontrager ran to a top 10 finish at a high school cross-country meet Tuesday at Bowers Athletic Complex to lead the Hillcrest Ravens.
Hillcrest finished sixth in the girls race while the boys did not have enough to qualify for a team score.
Bontrager, a sophomore, had a season-best effort, finishing in 23 minutes, 35 seconds. Her time eclipses Calli Shaw's school record for the course of 24:59 set in 2015. Sarena Gerber placed 25th in 25:05. Chloe Staley took over 25 seconds off her previous best time. Senior Ainsley Shaw lowered her season-best time by over two minutes. Emily Staal won the individual title finishing in 19:24.
Sophomore Collin Miller was the Ravens' No. 1 for the second time this season, finishing in 23:41. Luke Post of CPU won in 17:10.
The Hillcrest cross-country teams run next at City High's meet Oct. 3 at the University of Iowa Ashton Cross Country course in Iowa City.
