ANKENY ? Mt. Pleasant?s Natalie Booton placed in the top half of golfers at the Class 3A Girls? State Golf Tournament at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny this week.
Booton shot rounds of 93 and 95 on the par-71 course for a two-day total of 188, which earned her 26th place overall in a field of 54 competitors.
The first day on the course was windy, and Booton put a score of 50 on the first nine holes, but came up with a 43 on the back nine.
On day two, the weather cleared up, and Booton started off well, shooting for par on the first hole and an easy bogey on the second one.
?After that, it was just an up and down round, not making anything really happen,? Coach Jim Kelly said.
But overall, he was very happy with Booton?s performance ? not just at the state meet, but through all four of her years on the golf team.
?Natalie finished in the top half of all the girls at state and has had a tremendous year and career,? he said. ?She is ... a tremendous role model for younger athletes, especially girl athletes to look up to.?
The Class 3A medalist at the state tournament was Jessie Sindlinger of Charles City with a 152, and runner-up Mackenzie Black of Independence shot a 153.
Clear Lake won the team total with a score of 676, four strokes ahead of second-place Charles City.
Booton now moves on to a college golf career. She?ll be playing along with Mt. Pleasant teammate Lindsay Dorn at William Penn University.
