Boys basketball: First round recap

Pekin 74, Lone Tree 58
Pekin trailed 18-13 after one quarter of action in its Class 1A Region 6 matchup with Lone Tree on Monday, but the Panthers ended strong.
The Panthers went on to outscored the Lions 21-14, 24-15 and 16-11 in the next three quarter to pick up the first round victory.
Pekin (12-10) will take on North Mahaska (18-4) on Thursday.
Cardinal 63, Pleasantville 57
Cardinal moves on in the Class 2A Region 6 playoffs after its first round victory over Pleasantville.
The Comets (6-17) will take on Pella Christian (12-9).
WACO 87, Columbus 22
WACO held the Wildcats to single digits in all four quarters in the two’s Class 1A Region 4 matchup on Monday night.
The Warriors led 60-11 at the half, scoring 25 in the first and 35 in the second. In the second half, WACO outscored Columbus 27-11.
Cody Graber led WACO on the night with 15 points. Hunter Hughes followed with 11. Isaac Oswald ended with nine.
Columbus was led by Grant Watson and Christian Colby with five each.
The Wildcats end their season with a 4-19 record.
WACO (21-1) will host New London (16-6) on Thursday.
Winfield-Mt. Union 57, Wapello 37
WMU jumped on Wapello early in the two’s Class 1A Region 4 game on Monday.
The Wolves led 16-9 after one and 33-13 at the half. Wapello won the third, 15-13, but the Wolves ended with an 11-9 quarter to seal the first round victory.
Cam Buffington led the Wolves with 17 points and 11 boards in the win. Abram Edwards ended with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Carter Loyd followed with 11 points.
Winfield-Mt. Union (18-4) will take on Burlington Notre Dame (17-5) on Thursday.
Mid-Prairie 75, West Liberty 67
A strong finish by the Golden Hawks propelled them to a Class 2A Region 6 first round victory on Monday.
Mid-Prairie led 22-21 after one quarter and 34-33 at the half against West Liberty. The Comets went on to outscored the Golden Hawks 21-17 in the third to take a 54-51 lead into the fourth.
The Golden Hawks answered back with a 24-13 final quarter to take the victory.
Camron Pickard and Brady Weber both scored 16 points for Mid-Prairie. Ace Peck followed with 15.
The Golden Hawks (12-10) will take on Wilton (17-4) on Thursday.
Keota 78, North Tama 46
Keota handled North Tama in its Class 1A Region 6 matchup on Monday.
The Eagles led 41-24 at the half and went on to outscore the Redhawks 37-22 in the second half.
Sawyer Stout led Keota with 19 points. Evan Vittetoe had 13 points and Billie Kindred tallied 11.
Mediapolis 59, Van Buren County 49
Van Buren couldn’t quite make up the difference from the first half against Mediapolis on Monday night in its Class 2A Region 6 battle.
The Warriors were outscored 15-7 in the first and 17-15 in the second to trail, 32-22 at the half.
Van Buren rallied back with a 16-10 third to make it 42-38 heading into the fourth, but the Bulldogs ended with a 17-11 quarter to seal it.
Van Buren County ends its season with a 5-16 record.
