Numerous Southeast Iowa boys basketball teams picked up dominating wins this past week:
New London 101, Holy Trinity 50
New London dominated in all four quarters en route to a 51 point win over the Crusaders to stay undefeated.
The Tigers outscored Holy Trinity 26-18, 26-15, 35-11 and 14-6. New London is now 9-0 on the season.
WACO 59, Notre Dame 21
The Warriors used a 27-4 second half to capped off the Southeast Iowa Super Conference matchup.
Hunter Hughes poured in 18 points for WACO. Cody Graber and Colton Leichty both added 10.
WACO is now 8-2 after the victory.
Winfield-Mt. Union 42, Hillcrest Academy 33
The game wasn’t always in the Wolves’ favor as after two quarters of play the Ravens held a 21-19 lead, but a 19-5 third by Winfield-Mt. Union propelled them to victory.
Cam Buffington scored 24 for the Wolves. Abram Edwards and Konner Wade both added six.
Hillcrest’s seven game win streak is ended as they are now 7-2.
Winfield-Mt. Union 55, Holy Trintiy Catholic 34 (Saturday)
The Wolves held the Crusaders to single digits in all four quarters en route to the win.
Cam Buffington led with 16 points and 15 rebounds. Abram Edwards followed with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Winfield is now 10-1 on the year.
Cardinal 79, Central Lee 37
Cardinal routed the Hawks for its sixth win of the season, holding their opponent to single digits in three of the four quarters. The Comets led 44-16 after the first half.
The Comets are now 6-4 this season.
Mid-Prairie 75, West Branch 54
The Golden Hawks successfully stayed undefeated with the win over the Bears.
Mid-Prairie led 38-29 after two quarters of play and never looked back.
Carter Harmsen led all scorers with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Will Cavanagh and Ethan Kos both finished with 14 points a piece.
Mid-Prairie 67, Anamosa 31 (Saturday)
Mid-Prairie dominated in all facets of the game against Anamosa. The Golden Hawks held a 59-26 lead after three quarters.
Carter Harmsen once again led the Golden Hawks with 22 points. Ethan Kos chipped in 14 and Alex Bean 13.
Mid-Prairie stays undefeated at 10-0.
Keota 65, HLV 56
Keota led the entire contest, winning the first 15-11 and the third 17-12, while tying the Warriors in every other quarter and never allowing them to get an edge.
Sawyer Stout led the way with 22 points and Evan Vittetoe followed with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Mediapolis 53, Columbus 41
Columbus led after one half, 23-20, but struggled to keep pace in the second in a loss to the Bulldogs. Mediapolis won the second 33-18.
The Wildcats drop to 3-7 on the season.
Sigourney 55, Pekin 51
The Panthers kept the game close throughout, but a 18-10 quarter by the Savages proved to be the difference. Despite winning the third 13-10 and trailing just four, 38-34, heading into the fourth, Pekin couldn’t pull ahead.
With the loss, the Panthers move to 3-7 on the season.
Danville 71, Van Buren County 60
After trailing 22-7 and 42-22 following the first and second quarters, Van Buren County stormed back.
The Warriors won the second half 38-29, but it wasn’t enough to top the Bears.
The Warriors drop to 1-8.
English Valleys 55, Highland 37 (Thursday)
The Huskies never found an answer in the matchup against the Bears touching double digits in just one quarter.
Chase Schultz paced Highland with 13 points. Connor Grinstead finished with 11 and Trevor McFarland eight.
