Boys basketball roundup: Cardinal gets first SCC win

Tuesday night’s small school boys basketball action was highlighted by the Cardinal Comets picking up their first ever win in the South Central Conference.
Cardinal 73, Davis County 66
Cardinal built a big lead and the Mustangs’ rally fell short as the Comets won their first game in the South Central Conference.
Montana Rupe had an incredible night for the Comets, leading the way with 28 points.
New London 56, Mediapolis 42
The Tigers pulled off a big road win against Mediapolis to move to 3-1 on the young season.
After dropping the opener to Van Buren County, New London has now won three games in a row.
Wilton 67, Mid-Prairie 49
The Golden Hawks had their 13-game win streak over the Beavers snapped as Wilton stayed unbeaten to begin the season.
Mid-PraIrie’s Dylan Henry led his team with 15 points in the loss. Alex Bean finished with 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Keota 77, English Valleys 35
The Eagles dominated the Bears for a SICL home win, led by a 19-point performance from Sawyer Stout.
Cole Kindred and Chase Sieren each scored 12 points in the win. Billie Kindred finished with 12 rebounds.
WACO 78, Highland 17
It was all Warriors in conference road game at Highland. WACO had an incredible first quarter, leading 38-5 after the first buzzer.
Hunter Hughes put up 19 points, seven rebounds and six steals in the win for WACO. Cody Graber and Colton Leichty each scored 12 points. Clayton Miller had 11 points, pulled down seven rebounds and also led the defense with seven steals.
Hillcrest Academy 40, Pekin 32
The Panthers gave the Ravens everything they could handle, but Hillcrest Academy outscored Pekin 10-4 in the fourth to secure an eight-point win.
Luke Schrock scored 13 points and pulled down six rebounds to lead the Ravens. Seth Ours had 12 points.
Wapello 52, Columbus 26
Columbus couldn’t find many baskets in a home loss to Wapello.
The Wildcats led 9-8 after one quarter and were down just 19-15 at halftime, but Wapello dominated the final two periods.
