Boys basketball roundup: New London controls the South

The weekend saw a handful of games that had major conference race implications, including a major win for the New London Tigers.
New London 63, Danville 54
New London leapt over Danville in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division standings, running past the Bears 63-54.
Blaise Porter had 23 points in the win. Devin Swanson scored 14, and Kooper Schulte added 10.
The Tigers are now 12-1 in the South, one game ahead of the Bears. Danville is 11-2 in league play, with both losses coming to New London.
New London 82, Highland 37 (Saturday)
The Tigers followed Friday’s win with a routing of Highland. Porter put up 16 points in the win. Schulte had 13, and Kade Benjamin went for 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Highland’s Trevor McFarland scored 16 points in the loss.
WACO 71, West Burlington 33
The Warriors smashed a tough West Burlington squad to win their fourth game in a row.
Hunter Hughes scored 18 points to lead WACO. Reece Oswald scored 16 points, and Simeon Reichenbach put up 10.
Cardinal 63, Chariton 20 (Saturday)
The Comets rolled over Chariton in a matchup of future South Central Conference rivals. Cardinal moved to 10-6 with the win.
Cardinal 87, Van Buren County 60
Cardinal’s Griffin Greiner hit 1,000 career points in a 27-point win over rival Van Buren County. The victory finished off the season sweep for the Comets.
Van Buren County 67, Clark County (Mo.) 41 (Saturday)
Jackson Manning went off for 31 points as the Warriors bounced right back for a border war victory, Van Buren County’s third of the year.
Winfield-Mount Union 53, Wapello 47
The Wolves had to scrap and claw to stay undefeated in the SEISC South. The Wolves stormed back from a 25-17 halftime deficit to move to 13-0 in league play.
Cam Buffington finished the night with 18 points and 13 rebounds for the Wolves. Abram Edwards scored 17 points.
WMU now has a share of the North title wrapped up. One more win will clinch the championship alone.
Hillcrest Academy 50, Pekin 39
The Ravens pulled away from Pekin in the second half after the Panthers went into the locker rooms with a 22-21 advantage.
Grant Bender led the comeback victory, scoring 22 points for the Ravens. Luke Schrock scored 14. Pekin’s Luke Long finished with 13.
Danville 68, Hillcrest Academy 30 (Saturday)
Saturday wasn’t as happy of a day for Hillcrest fans. Danville rolled past the Ravens in a SEISC Shootout game.
Louisa-Muscatine 33, Columbus 27 (OT)
The Wildcats were ice cold in a SEISC road game. The Falcons survived by six points in the extra period.
Columbus’ Timothy Hills scored 10 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in the loss.
Highland 56, Columbus 31 (Saturday)
The Huskies rolled over the Wildcats in a North game on Saturday.
Schultz scored 15 points to lead Highland. Kaige Vonnahme put up 11, and Trevor McFarland had 10. Columbus’ Oscar Alcala finished with eight.
No. 3 (2A) Mid-Prairie 54, Bellevue 45
The Golden Hawks had to stage a fourth-quarter comeback to keep their undefeated season alive. Bellevue had led 15-14 after one quarter, 13-9 at halftime and 36-35 after three periods.
Carter Harmsen put p 16 points and eight rebounds to lead Mid-Prairie. Will Cavanah had 14, and Alex Bean scored 11.
Keota 58, Colfax-Mingo 57
The Eagles staved off a Tigerhawk comeback attempt to cling on to a 58-57 home victory.
Evan Vittetoe had another huge game, going for 24 points and 12 rebounds in the win. Cole Kindred scored 12.
Keota 70, Tri-County 39 (Saturday)
Keota picked up its second win in two days, romping Tri-County by 31 points.
Sawyer Stout went off for 22 points in the win. Vittetoe had 10 pounds and 11 rebounds, and Colten Clarahan scored 10 points.
