Boys basketball roundup: WACO bests Columbus

WACO, Winfield-Mount Union and Hillcrest Academy all grabbed big wins over the weekend in boys basketball.
WACO 82, Columbus 34
WACO outscored Columbus 40-5 in the first quarter of a Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division clash.
Hunter Hughes went off for 34 points in the win for WACO. Tim Hills-Carrier led Columbus with 17.
Holy Trinity Catholic 77, New London 39
The Tigers dropped a SEISC South Division road game. Brendan Richey scored 16 points in the loss, and London Franklin ended with nine.
Central Lee 90, Van Buren County 57
The Warriors couldn’t keep up with the high-octane Hawks. Despite the loss, Izaak Loeffler scored 21 points and Lucas Fett finished with 17.
No. 3 (1A) Winfield-Mount Union 83, Wapello 33
Winfield-Mount Union dominated a SEISC North showdown at Wapello. The Wolves led 46-14 at halftime and 67-23 after three quarters.
Cam Buffington scored 26 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Wolves. Jake Edwards scored 16 points, and Abram Edwards had 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Hillcrest Academy 67, Lone Tree 50
The Ravens were up just 33-30 at halftime but cruised in the final two quarters to earn a conference win.
Rowan Miller scored 20 points for the Ravens, including three 3-pointers. Mason Bender scored 18, and Seth Ours had 15.
Davis County 70, Cardinal 33
The Comets fell on the road in a South Central Conference game at Davis County.
Wapello 76, Cardinal 55
One day after the loss at Davis County, Cardinal faced Jackson Lanz and Wapello on the road. Lanz scored 41 points for the Indians.
Bellevue 89, Mid-Prairie 83
The Golden Hawks blew a late lead against Bellevue in a River Valley crossover game.
Aace Peck scored 26 points in the loss, hitting a ridiculous seven 3-pointers. Bryce Henry and Dylan Henry each scored 16.
