Boys basketball roundup: WACO, WMU, Mid-Prairie win second straight

WACO (2-0) 76, Wapello (1-1) 29
WACO followed a slow first quarter with a dominant final three to pick up its second win of the year.
The Warriors trailed 15-13 to the Indians after one quarter, but they would go on to outscore the Indians 27-3, 22-8 and 14-3 in the final three quarter.
Hunter Hughes scored a game-high 25 points for the Warriors. Chase Waterhouse ended with 10. Reece Oswald and Colton Leichty each added nine.
Winfield-Mt. Union (2-0) 49, Pekin (1-1) 33
WMU grabbed its second win of the season on Friday against Pekin.
The Wolves scored 31 in the first half, while holding the Panthers to just 14. WMU would win the third 12-6 and Pekin would come back to win the fourth, 13-6, but the Wolves’ lead was too great.
Cam Buffington led WMU with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Abram Edwards had a double-double as well with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Carter Loyd and Jake Edwards each added eight.
Mid-Prairie (2-0) 62, Northeast (1-2) 39
The Golden Hawks won their second game and second straight of the season with the Saturday afternoon win over Northeast.
Mid-Prairie outscored Northeast 17-8 in the first and 16-13 after two. The Golden Hawks would control the second half as well, winning the third 17-12 and the fourth 12-6.
Alex Bean led Mid-Prairie with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Camron Pickard and Collin Miller each finished with 11. Cain Brown ended with six and Ace Peck added five.
New London (1-1) 64, Central Lee (0-3) 27
New London got its first win of the season on Friday night against Central Lee.
The Tigers jumped out to a quick lead, going up 19-4 after one quarter. New London won every quarter of the game, outscoring the Hawks 24-11, 11-5 and 10-7.
Blaise Porter finished with 25 points and seven rebounds for the Tigers. Kade Benjamin ended with 24 points. Rylan Martin added 10 points and Leo Gebauer had five.
Keota (4-0) 69, Sigourney (1-1) 41
Keota and Sigourney were tied up after one quarter, but the Eagles turned it on in the final three to pick up a dominant victory and their fourth of the season.
The Eagles and Savages were tied at 15 after one quarter, but Keota would outscore Sigourney 18-13, 20-3 and 16-10 over the course of the final three quarters.
Sawyer Stout led Keota with 14 points. Evan Vittetoe and Cole Kindred each finished with 13. Billie Kindred ended with seven.
Burlington Notre Dame (2-1) 75, Van Buren County (1-1) 42
Van Buren suffered its first loss of the season on Friday night to the hands of Notre Dame.
Marquette Catholic (3-0) 63, Hillcrest Academy (1-1) 36
Hillcrest Academy dropped its first game of the year with the loss to Marquette Catholic.
The Ravens were outscored 17-9 after one quarter and trailed 39-21 at the break. Hillcrest would win the third 8-7, but drop the fourth 17-7.
Lone Tree (1-3) 70, Highland (0-2) 39
Highland still is looking for its first win of the season after the loss to Lone Tree.
Lone Tree lead 19-7 after one, 41-19 at the half, 56-31 after three and won the fourth 14-8 on Friday night.
