Boys basketball roundup: WMU, Keota keeps on winning

No. 3 Winfield-Mt. Union (14-1) 76, Columbus (3-13) 12
WMU held Columbus to six points or less in the two’s Friday matchup.
The Wolves outscored the Wildcats 26-6, 14-4, 22-0 and 14-2.
Abram Edwards scored 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Cam Buffington followed with 12 points and Cole Milks had 11.
Tim Hills-Carrier had seven points for Columbus. Ellis Hills-Carrier had three and Ryan Coil two.
No. 5 (Class 1A) Keota 89, Tri-County (0-15) 33
Keota stayed perfect with a victory over Tri-County on Friday.
The Eagles outscored the Trojans 32-8, 21-15, 23-6 and 13-4 on their way to win number 15.
Sawyer Stout paced Keota with 24 points. Chase Sieren and Conner Strand each tallied 13.
WACO (10-4) 64, Hillcrest Academy (11-6) 53
WACO picked up win number 10 against Hillcrest Academy on Friday.
The Warriors outscored the Ravens, 17-14, 13-15, 15-9, 19-15.
Colton Leichty led WACO with 17 points. Chase Waterhouse had 13 and Isaac Egli 10.
Rowan Miller had 20 for Hillcrest Academy. Bryce Bailey had 13 and Seth Ours 12.
Pekin (9-7) 66, Lone Tree (5-12) 55
Pekin’s big first half propelled it to victory on Friday against Lone Tree.
The Panthers outscored the Lions 37-17 in the first half. Lone Tree won the second half 38-29 in the second, but it wasn’t enough.
Wilton (10-5) 72, Mid-Prairie (6-7) 61
Mid-Prairie came up just short to Wilton on Friday evening. Bryce Henry scored a game-high 29 points for the Golden Hawks. Dylan Henry ended with 13 and Ace Peck six.
Wapello (6-11) 73, Highland (1-13) 27
Highland couldn’t keep up with Wapello on Friday night. The Huskies were held to less than 10 in each of the four quarters, 28-6, 32-6, 9-9 and 4-6.
Nicolas Oriano led Highland with eight points, Bryce Hazelett ended with seven and Jacob Schneider three.
Holy Trinity Catholic (12-4) 69, Van Buren County (2-13) 20
Van Buren County was held to six points or less in each of the four quarters against Holy Trinity Catholic on Friday
The Warriors were bested, 13-6, 26-7, 16-6 and 14-1.
West Burlington (14-0) 87, New London (3-13) 48
Chariton (5-9) 75, Cardinal (0-14) 37
Cardinal was outscored three of four quarters on Friday as Chariton outscored the Comets 19-9, 30-7, 11-16, 15-5.
Saturday, Jan. 27
No. 5 (Class 1A) Keota (16-0) 71, Hillcrest Academy (11-7) 35
Hillcrest Academy had Keota on the ropes after one period of action on Saturday as the Ravens led 15-13.
However, Keota turned it around topping Hillcrest Academy 17-7, 20-11 and 21-2 in the final three quarters.
Billie Kindred had 18 points and 15 rebounds for Keota. Evan Vittetoe finished with 14 points and Cole Kindred followed with 13.
Seth Ours and Rowan Miller each had eight for Hillcrest Academy. Mason Bender added six.
WACO (11-4) 60, Wapello (6-12) 36
WACO had no problem with Wapello on Saturday. The Warriors led 38-14 at the half. Wapello just edged WACO 14-10 in the third, but the Warriors closed it out 12-8.
Chase Waterhouse finished with 16 points. Colton Leichty followed with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Hunter Hughes totaled 10.
