Boys basketball roundup: WMU wins big

Winfield-Mt. Union 72, Columbus 18
WMU had no problem with Columbus on Friday night as the Wolves picked up their fifth win of the season to stay at second in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference North standings.
The Wolves held the Wildcats to just 15 first half points and three in the second.
Cam Buffington continues his great season with a double double, with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Jake Edwards followed with 14 points and Gabriel Hemsworth finished with 10.
West Burlington 51, New London 43
New London didn’t have quite enough against West Burlington on Friday as the current one seeded Falcons stay undefeated.
Blaise Porter finished with 21 points and 13 rebounds in the loss. Brendan Richey ended with nine and Kade Benjamin had 10.
New London 100, GMG 69
New London bounced back after the loss to West Burlington with a large victory over GMG on Saturday.
The Tigers trailed 43-42 at the half, but outscored the Wolverines 58-26 in the second half.
Blaise Porter scored 41 points and five assists in the victory. Kade Benjamin added 31 points and eight boards. Brendan Richey followed with 15 points.
Mid-Prairie 67, Durant 50
Mid-Prairie ended a three game week with a victory over Durant on Friday.
After a 9-9 first quarter, the Golden Hawks won the scoring battle the rest of the way out 58-41.
Camron Pickard led Mid-Prairie with 19 points. Alex Bean followed with 18 and Dylan Henry added 15.
Pekin 72, Lone Tree 25
Pekin dominated Lone Tree on Friday evening.
The Panthers held the Lions to single digits in three out of the four quarters. They won the first 18-7, the second 22-4, the third 20-11 and fourth 12-3.
Holy Trinity Catholic 60, Van Buren County 43
At the half on Friday, Van Buren County and Holy Trinity were knotted at 22, but HTC took control in the second half.
The Crusaders outscored the Warriors 38-21 between the third and fourth quarter.
Lynnville-Sully 55, Keota 43
Keota led the Hawks 17-15 after one quarter in their Friday night contest, but Lynnville-Sully would outscore the Eagles 21-6 in the second to build a 36-23 halftime lead.
Keota outscored Lynnville-Sully 20-19 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough.
Sawyer Stout tallied 15 points for the Eagles. Billie Kindred added 10 and Cole Kindred ended with seven.
Wapello 57, Highland 35
Highland struggled against Wapello on Friday.
The Huskies trailed just three after one, 13-10, but the were outscored by the Indians 44-25 the rest of the way.
