Thursday could be an important day to look back on for the Washington boys? golf team at the end of the year.
Washington went to the Amana Colonies for a meet hosted by Clear Creek-Amana, and came away with a meet victory, posting a team score of 164, to defeat CCA by 13 strokes.
If Washington advances out of its sectional golf meet on May 13, they will be playing at the Amana Colonies golf course in its district meet, and head coach Mark Berhow said he thinks the team learned a lot about the course.
?I was pleased to hear them say, ?I don?t think this is as hard of a course as I remember,?? Berhow said. ?That is a great perspective to have, because the last time we were there, we didn?t play very well at all, with the exception of Derek (Anding). That was great to hear from the guys, because they are ready to take on the course. To advance to state we have to go through this course.?
The Demons were led by Tanner Coleman in the meet, after he posted a birdie on hole 8 to card a 40 on the day, earning meet medalist honors.
?He birdied his last hole,? Berhow said. ?He had a nice par 3 with water in front, and hit a nice shot and was left with a nice birdie putt, and sunk it. It was great for him. That?s the beauty of having six guys, because we have a few up at the top regularly, but we interchange scores.?
The Demons also had the next lowest three scores, with Dalton Myers and Derek Anding both posting 41s and Noah Enfield notching a 42 on the day.
Jacob Van Osdol carded a 43, while Mason Rich scored a 48 on the day.
With questionable weather in store for Saturday, the Demons hope to still compete at their meet in Fairfield (scheduled for 8 a.m.).
However, whenever the Demons next take the course, Berhow said he is hoping for consistency in their ability and for the team to maintain its attitude.
?I want to see them continue to be aggressive,? Berhow said. ?They have matured in their ability and confidence to say, ?I can hit birdies.? That?s the biggest shift in our thinking, because we are managing the course better.?
