Two strokes was the difference between moving on and the end of the season for the Washington boys? golf team on Thursday afternoon.
The Demons played in the sectional meet at Flint Hills Golf Course, and came away with a team score of 345, earning second-place honors, and moving the entire team to the district meet next Friday.
Both Solon and Clear Creek Amana were hot on the Demons? heels, shooting team scores of 347, while Mt. Pleasant had a 348 and Burlington, Notre Dame had a 349.
Mt. Vernon won the team event with a 312.
?We experienced a valuable lesson that we have talked about all season: every stroke matters,? Washington boys? golf head coach Mark Berhow said after the event.
As a team, the individual scores were consistent for the Demons, as Noah Enfield led the charge with a team-best score of 84 (42, 42).
Tanner Coleman finished just behind Enfield with an 85 (45, 40) while Derek Anding (47, 41) and Blake Weidman (48, 40) each had strong second nines to put together rounds of 88.
Freshman Dalton Myers rounded out the team with an 89 (42, 47).
With the second-place finish, Washington will move on to districts, which will be held at the Amana Colonies on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.
