The Washington boys? golf team had a taste of what is in store for them on Tuesday last week, and are hoping to continue improving.
The Demons traveled to Fort Madison on Friday afternoon, playing in a pre-conference meet against the four other conference schools at the Sheaffer Memorial Golf Course, where Tuesday?s conference meet will be held.
Washington took second at the conference preview, notching a 168 as a team, behind Mt. Pleasant?s 163.
?It was disappointing in some ways, because we wanted to score better as a team,? Washington boys? golf head coach Mark Berhow said. ?As a positive, I think some of the guys realized that they can definitely score better, so we are looking forward to getting back and improving on our scores.?
The Demons were led by Mason Rich, who carded a 39 on the day, one of his better scores in the late part of the season.
?That was definitely his best round, if not for the whole year, since the beginning of the year,? Berhow said. ?I told him that that is going to help us, and I think he?s very capable of staying there. We have six golfers and I?m confident in all six posting a good team score.?
Rich?s mark was followed by a pair of 42s from Dalton Myers and Tanner Coleman, while Jacob Van Osdol and Noah Enfield each claimed 45s at the meet. Ben Bohr carded a 47 in his second varsity meet of the season.
The conference meet is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
