A couple of area boys basketball teams scooped up conference wins on a full night of small school basketball in the Union coverage area.
No. 3 (2A) Mid-Prairie 55, Regina 24
The Golden Hawks teed off on Regina, dumping the Regals by 31 points on Regina’s home court.
Carter Harmsen continued to shred River Valley defenses, scoring 18 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Ethan Koss scored 12.
New London 70, West Burlington 57
New London bounced back from last week’s loss to WACO to speed past West Burlington. The Falcons led 14-12 after one period, but the Tigers controlled the game from that point forward.
Devin Swanson scored 18 points for the Tigers. Kooper Schulte put up 17. Blaise Porter finished with 15, and Kade Benjamin put up eight in his return from injury.
Pekin 59, Columbus 53
The Wildcats gave the Panthers quite the scare in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference North Division clash, but the Panthers held on for a six-point win.
Columbus held a 12-11 advantage after one quarter. Pekin came back to lead 30-27 at halftime and 44-36 after three quarters.
Highland 39, Louisa-Muscatine 34
Highland staved off a late run by Louisa-Muscatine to hang on for a SEISC North Division win, avenging an earlier-season loss in the process.
The Huskies were led by an 18-point outing by Chase Schultz. Trevor McFarland chipped in five points and four assists.
Iowa Valley 70, Keota 53
The Golden Hawks struggled to contain the Iowa Valley offense, losing every quarter en route to a 17-point road loss.
Despite the loss, Evan Vittetoe had a nice game, going off for 19 points and 11 rebounds. Cole Kindred scored 16 points and Grant Garman finished with 10.
