A busy area boys basketball schedule was highlighted by a couple of perfect teams staying that way, as New London and Mid-Prairie both held onto their undefeated records.
New London 86, Central Lee 19
Blaise Porter eclipsed the 1,000 career point mark as the New London boys pounded Central Lee in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference South Division matchup.
Porter, only in his junior year, scored 11 points to reach the milestone a year earlier than most 1,000 point scorers, in just his third game played in the 2021-22 season.
Kade Benjamin put up 24 points and threw down a few dunks to lead New London in the victory. Tayshaun Donaldson scored 12 points and Kooper Schulte tallied 10.
Mid-Prairie 60, Northeast 55 (OT)
Mid-Prairie got pushed to overtime, but the Golden Hawks survived Northeast’s push to move to 6-0 on the season.
Carter Harmsen went off for 28 points adn seven rebounds to lead Mid-Prairie. Will Cavanagh scored 19.
Mid-Prairie is the only team with action still to come before Christmas. They will play in Kansas City at the ‘12 Courts of Christmas’ on Thursday.
Keota 55, BGM 27
The Eagles ran roughshod on the Bears, picking up a blowout home victory in their last game before break.
Keota had four players reach double digits. Sawyer Stout put up 15 points. Conner Strand scored 14. Evan Vittetoe put up 11, and Colten Clarahan finished the night with 10.
Cardinal 48, West Burlington 31
The Comets scored a huge SEISC South win over West Burlington, romping the Falcons by 17 points to move to 3-2 in conference play.
Cardinal’s Griffin Greiner put up 14 points to lead Cardinal in the win.
Winfield-Mount Union 65, Louisa-Muscatine 31
The Wolves bounced right back from their weekend loss at WACO to put the paws on Louisa-Muscatine in a SEISC North road game.
WMU is now 7-1 on the year and 6-0 in conference play, taking the North lead into the holidays with an unblemished league record.
Hillcrest Academy 47, Highland 40
Hillcrest stayed hot on WMU’s tails in the SEISC North race, pulling away late to beat Highland at home.
The Huskies put up a nice fight, getting 12 points from Chase Schultz and nine each from Connor Grinstead and Trevor McFarland, but Highland will go into the break with an 0-6 record.
Lone Tree 41, Columbus 40
The Wildcats lost a nail-biter at home against Lone Tree, falling to 2-5 in conference play and failing to surpass the Lions for fifth place in the North standings.
Pella Christian 64, Pekin 30
The Panthers couldn’t pull off the road upset in a nonconference trip to Pella Christian.
Pekin stayed in it through one quarter, trailing 16-10 after the first eight minutes. Pella Christian, however, won the second quarter 21-3 to lead to the Panthers’ ultimate demise.
