Highland picks up first win, WACO sees victory

Highland soccer picked up its first victory of the season on Friday
The Huskies trailed 0-1 after the first half against Wapello.
While the Indians would add one more in the second, the Huskies slipped four into the net propelling them to victory.
Jared Diaz and Logan McFarland scored two goals a piece in the win
McFarland and Carlos Valenzuela each had an assist as well.
Ayden Havel finished with nine saves in goal for the Huskies.
Highland is now 1-11.
WACO 1, Hillcrest Academy 0
WACO’s lone first half goal was enough to push the Warriors past Hillcrest Academy on Friday.
WACO moves to 3-7. Hillcrest Academy now holds a 4-5 record.
The Warriors will take on Wapello (0-11) on Tuesday. Hillcrest Academy will take on Washington (8-4).
Columbus/Winfield-Mt. Union 2, Central Lee 0
Columbus/WMU got back to .500 on Thursday with a victory over Central Lee.
The Wildcats and Hawks were tied at 0-0 after one half, but Columbus found the net twice in the second to grab the win.
Sachiel Villagrana and Ian Estudillo each scored one a piece for the Wildcats.
Columbus/ WMU’s Bryan Tlatenchi finished with one assist as well.
In goal, Jacob Haines had four saves.
Columbus/WMU now sits at 7-7. They will take on Mediapolis (9-2) on Friday.
Prince of Peace 8, Mid-Prairie 3
Mid-Prairie just didn’t have enough to get the win over the Irish on Friday.
The Golden Hawks trailed 2-3 at the half, but the Irish pulled even farther away in the second.
Mid-Prairie added another score in the second, but Prince of Peace went on to score five.
Owen Trimpe, Noah Ford and Hugo Banuelos each scored a goal in the loss for Mid-Prairie.
Luke Traetow, Daniel Rodgers and Grady Miller all finished with an assist.
In goal, Andrew Kaufman had five saves and Jacob Flynn tallied four.
Mid-Prairie improves to 7-6 on the season.
Central Lee 2, Danville/New London 1
Danville/New London’s first half goal wasn’t enough to get past Central Lee.
The Bears held a 1-0 advantage over the Hawks heading into the second half, but Central Lee answered back with a goal of its own to knot it at 1-1.
After full-time, the Hawks delivered the winner in extra time.
Trevor Yaley scored the Bears’ one goal. Talan Whaley had one assist as well.
Albia 7, Sigourney-Keota 0
Sigourney-Keota could never find the back of the net against Albia on Friday.
The Cobras gave up six goals in the opening half and one more in the second.
With the loss, Sigourney-Keota drops to 6-5.
The Cobras will take on WACO (3-7) on Thursday.
