CEDAR RAPIDS — Fairfield remained at No. 15 in Class 2A, but Mid-Prairie moved up in 1A when the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association released its fifth weekly rankings for the 2021 boys season for Classes 1A, 2A, and 3A.
Mid-Prairie is now fifth, up from seventh on the strength of its unbeaten record and defeat of a ranked Columbus team, which tumbled out of the top 16 with three straight losses last week, all to ranked teams. The River Valley Conference has the Golden Hawks and Iowa City Regina ranked with West Branch and Cascade getting votes.
Fairfield remained in the same spot, three spots behind No. 12 Southeast Conference rival Fort Madison at No. 12.
The Super Conference has Notre Dame back at No. 1 in 1A and Mediapolis enters at 15 after falling out of the rankings four weeks ago.
The rankings are for all games through Saturday, May 1. This week’s rankings will be used to help setup the postseason brackets for sub-states.
Fairfield’s Xavier Kapijimpanga is 10th in 2A with 16 goals. Zac Stout of Washington, which had been receiving votes but did not get any in this week’s poll, is tied for second with 23. The tie is with Fort Madison’s Mitchell Pothitakis and Jacob Pothitakis is fourth with 20. Fort Madison has three of the top five assists totals and a fourth at 12. Washington’s Brayan Areola is 19th with six.
Gary Molina of Columbus is seventh in 1A with 17 goals scored and ninth in points with 36. Owen Trimpe is 14th in goals scored with 12, 18th in points with 26, and Mid-Prairie teammate Ethan Trimpe is tied for 10th in assists with seven.
The weekly rankings will conclude with the eighth rankings of the regular season.
