Fairfield wins and loses at home triangular
The Fairfield boys saw victory and defeat on Thursday night in a home triangular with Fort Madison and Ottumwa.
Both were narrow team finishes as the Trojans defeated Ottumwa 41-36, but lost to Fort Madison 42-41.
The Trojans had a slew of wrestlers go 2-0 in the competition. Dain Burkhart (175), Dre Smithburg (215), Cael McCabe (113), Cason Miller (157), Zandrik Allison (144) and Calvin McClain (165) were all two time winners for Fairfield.
Columbus/WMU wins Mike Halupnick Big Red Invite
Columbus/WMU, Fairfield, Van Buren County and Cardinal were all present at the Mike Halupnick Big Red Invite on Saturday.
It was a big day for the Wildcats of Columbus/WMU as they won the team title with 341 points. Fairfield finished 12th with 159.5 points. Van Buren County placed 13th with 131 points and Cardinal ended up in 15th with 118.5 points.
The Wildcats had two second place finishers in Riley Kaalberg (165) and Jacob Nelson (120).
Dakota Aney (106), Kason Dopler (175) and Trevor Phillips (190) all placed third.
For Fairfield, Dain Burkhart was a first place winner at 175. Dre Smithburg finished third at 215 as well.
Van Buren County’s highest placer was Leo Jirak at 106, who took fourth. Elijah Westercamp (190) and Jackson Meek (150) all both placed fifth.
Kyran Spees (138) finished fourth for Cardinal. Ethan Schultz (165) followed in fifth.
Washington wins WACO Tournament
Washington led all squads at the WACO tournament on Saturday. The Demons posted 182.5 points for the victory. Mt. Pleasant followed in second with 160 points. Highland and New London placed third and fourth with 117 and 107.5 points respectively. WACO finished sixth with 101 points.
Mid-Prairie placed 13th with 40 points and Pekin placed 15th with 25 points.
Washington finished with five first place finishers in Greyson Hartman (215), Blaine Rees (165), Jude Carter (144), Aaron Boone (132) and Nate Edmonds (113).
Mt. Pleasant’s one winner was Jackson Newman at 157. Payton Walker (190), Ramzy Davis (150), Keegan Birdsell (144), Lane Beckler (126) and Levi Evans (106) all finished second.
Highland got second place finishes from Cash Cole (113) and Tyler Pierson (132).
New London secured a title from Kane Forseen at 126. Gage Burden (138) and Killian Kelly (157) both finished second.
The host Warriors got individual titles from Ian Maize (106), Gage Samo (120) and Louden Huisenga (190).
Mid-Prairie got a silver finish from Tommy Miller at 215 and Burke Berry placed third at 285.
For Pekin, Henry Adam placed third at 165. Landon Crow followed in sixth at 157.
Sigourney-Keota finishes sixth at Hudson Invitational
Sigourney-Keota notched a sixth-place finish over the weekend in the Hudson Invitational.
The Cobras tallied 100.5 points. Brady Clark led the way with a second overall finish at 150. Jacob Libe (157), Ashton Achwab (165) and Owen Menke (285) all followed in third.
