Five Union area teams wrestle at Ottumwa Invitational
Fairfield, Columbus/WMU, Sigourney-Keota, Van Buren County and Cardinal were all in action on Friday and Saturday in the Ottumwa Invitational.
The Trojans were the highest team placers in the tournament, finishing sixth with 362.5 points. Columbus/WMU placed 11th with 289.5 points. Sigourney-Keota followed in 16th with 201.5 points. Van Buren County ended with 124.5 points for 21st and Cardinal 23rd with 49.5 points.
For Fairfield, Cason Miller (157) and Cael McCabe (113) each placed second. Dain Burkhart (175) and Dre Smithburg (215) each followed with third overall finishes.
Columbus/WMU’s lone second place finisher was Kason Dopler at 175. Itai Zapiensz (285) placed fourth and Jacob Nelson (120) fifth.
Sigourney-Keota’s highest finisher was Jayden Thompson at 190. Thompson took fourth. Owen Menke (285) and Jacob Libe (150) each followed in seventh.
Van Buren County had two top five finishers with Elijah Westercamp placing third at 190 and Leo Jirak fourth at 106.
Cardinal’s Zach Luedtke (132) finished 11th and Sawyer Goehring (175) placed 12th.
Mt. Pleasant leads area teams in Gary Curtis Invitational
Mt. Pleasant, WACO, Mid-Prairie, New London and Highland all competed in the Gary Curtis Invitational on Saturday.
Mt. Pleasant led the area squads with an eight place finish after scoring 90.5 points.
WACO followed in 10th with 72 points. Mid-Prairie placed 11th with 61.5 points, New London 12th with 44 points and host Highland 13th with 33.5 points.
For the Panthers, Levi Evans finished second at 106. Cruz Aguilar finished 5th at 120 and Ramzy Davis at 150 as well.
WACO had two winners on the day in Ian Maize (106) and Louden Huisenga (190). Gage Samo (113) finished third.
Mid-Prairie had a pair of third placers in Tommy Miller at 215 and Burke Berry at 285.
New London was paced by Gage Burden, who placed third at 138. Kane Forseen followed with a fourth overall finish at 126.
Finally, for the host Huskies, Cash Cole (113) and Brock Thomann (126) each placed fifth.
Washington finishes 12th at Bobcat Jerry Eckenrod Invitational
The Washington Demons had four top eight finishers in Saturday’s 2025 Bobcat Jerry Eckenrod Invitational.
As a team, the Demons finished 12th out of 17 squads posting 45 points.
The highest place finisher for Washington was Aaron Boone at 132. Boone placed second after winning three straight matches, before falling in the final.
Joseph Schreiber (106), Nate Edmonds (113) and Blaine Rees (165) all placed eighth.
Pekin places 12th at North Mahaska
Pekin had a pair of top six place finishers at North Mahaska on Saturday.
The Panther’s Landon Crow placed fifth at 157, while Jonnah Breon followed in sixth at 285.
