COLUMBUS JUNCTION — With the Louisa County Fair in the rear view mirror, the racing season at the CJ Speedway is quickly beginning to wind down.
With the running of racing program on Friday, Feb. 13, only three more shows remain on the 2021 racing schedule — Aug. 20 Season Championships in five weekly classes, Aug. 19 - the makeup date for the Super Late Model Racing Association (SLMRA) “Haulin with Hoker” East Series, and Aug. 27 with all five classes in action — plus the November Special
Friday night’s racing action saw David Brandies make his way back to the CJ Speedway victory lane in the tough Mincer Ford IMCA stock car division. Brandies raced to the front from his third row start, taking over the top spot after breaking loose of a pack of cars including Tad Payne and Scott Jordan.
Brandies went on to pace the remainder of the feature as veteran driver Kirk Kinsley gradually making up ground on Brandies. Kinsley was able to close to Brandies rear bumper but was unable to make the pass in settling for a strong second place. Jordan looked good all night in taking third ahead of Adam Bell.
Jarrett Brown is having a great year driving Bill Failyer's IMCA modified. Brown padded his point lead with another win in the Stewart & Sons Fuel IMCA modified division. Brown worked to the front from a seventh starting spot and took over the point by moving past race leader Brandon Banks. Brown went on to stretch out the lead, scoring a comfortable win over Banks and Kurt Kile.
There were 26 drivers who took the green flag in the Huston Brothers Trucking IMCA sports modified feature on Friday night. Logan Anderson found the extreme low line around the multi-grooved smooth track to be his preferred line to the front. Anderson got to the front quickly and went on to score the win over one of the best in the business in visiting driver Tim Plummer.
Anderson stayed committed to the low line even though the top line appeared to be the hot line during the middle of the race. Anderson crossed under the checkers just ahead of Plummer and Colton Livezey.
Rick VanDusseldorp broke a recent dry spell in scoring the CJ Auto Parts NAPA Stores Hobby Stock main event win. VanDusseldorp took over the top spot after an early caution and went on to lead flag to flag. Randy LaMar closed late in the race before settling for second ahead of Luke Phillips.
Shane Barnes scored his second consecutive Midwest Towing IMCA Sport Compact feature win. Barnes delighted his legion of fans by racing to the win over 15-year-old Garrett Porter.
Barnes battled with Porter for several laps before taking the lead for good after the race passed the midway point. Porter ran second ahead of William Michel.
This coming Friday will be season championships in the five weekly classes but next up at the CJ Speedway will be the makeup date for the Super Late Model Racing Association (SLMRA) “Haulin with Hoker” East Series racing event which will be held on Thursday, Aug. 19. In addition to the high-powered late models, the modifieds, stock cars and sports modifieds will also be in action for this special event.
One more Friday racing event will be held on Aug. 27 with all five classes in action. The final race of the 2021 season will be the annual Turkey Dash on Saturday, Nov. 6.
Season championships will be conducted on Friday, Aug. 13, at the CJ Speedway with hot laps taking to the track at 7:15 p.m.
