GILBERTVILLE — The Winfield-Mount Union football team is headed to the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls for the first time since 1999.
The Wolves survived a late Don Bosco rush on Thursday night in the Class 8-Player quarterfinals, knocking out the Dons 34-29 in an instant classic.
Senior Cole Milks picked off a pass at the goal line to save the game for the Wolves at the final buzzer.
Quarterback Jake Edwards threw for three touchdowns, hitting Abram Edwards, Eli Miller and Carter Loyd for scores. Cam Buffington rushed for two touchdowns of his own.
The Wolves will play Bishop Garrigan in the Class 8-Player semifinals on Wednesday. That game is set for a 10 a.m. kick off at the UNI-Dome.
A full story on this game will be in Monday’s edition of The Southeast Iowa Union.
