FORT MADISON — The Mt. Pleasant baseball team just can’t figure out how to stop the bleeding. Big innings did the Panthers in again on Monday night, where Fort Madison took both games of a Southeast Conference doubleheader, winning 15-0(4) and 14-4(5).
In Game 1, the Panthers played the Bloodhounds close through the first two innings. Fort Madison entered the bottom of the third leading 1-0, and scored seven each in the third and fourth to end the game early via the 15-run rule.
The Panthers had just one hit in the Game 1 loss, a single by Colten Hutson. Jack Johnson took the loss on the mound, giving up eight runs (seven earned) on seven hits and five walks, while striking out one batter in 3⅓ innings.
The Panthers led in Game 2, scoring four runs in the second inning to take a 4-1 advantage. Fort Madison didn’t get the lead back until the bottom of the fourth, where they scored six to go on top 7-4.
Much like Game 1, the Bloodhound runs kept flowing with a second breakout inning. Fort Madison scored seven runs in the fifth inning to finish off the Panthers.
Carter Amos went 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs to lead Mt. Pleasant in Game 2. Dalton Gardner was 2-for-2. Johnson had a double, and both Hutson and Will Edeker finished with one RBI.
Edeker started on the mound and gave up four runs (three earned) over three innings. Cooper Keldgord gave up 10 runs (nine earned) in one inning of relief.
Mt. Pleasant is now 2-11 overall this season and 1-7 in conference play.
