First-year Fairfield head girls? basketball coach Mick Flattery invited Dan Breen to speak at his inaugural camp Thursday morning.
Breen led the Fairfield program to a state championship in 1983.
?Mick asked me to come in and build some of the confidence. It was a bit of a history lesson about what their mothers and aunts did in the past, and I hope it got them to thinking about what they should expect of themselves and how they can get there,? Breen said. ?I tried to show them what is possible and what can happen if they listen to coaches and make a commitment.?
Breen has been heavily involved as director of the Fairfield youth basketball program over the winter months and this is just one more opportunity he has seized to help improve the basketball programs.
?I?ve come to know some of the kids, and I have young children of my own, so my interest is back in,? he said. ?I?m giving the kids a chance to succeed in the sport that should be fun to play.?
Breen spoke to the group of girls in grades 4-12 before camp wrapped up earlier today.
