Brown medals for Wentworth

LEXINGTON, Mo. ? Jarek Brown of Washington, Iowa advanced to the semifinal round of the MSHSAA Wrestling Championship Tournament on Friday evening for the 152 weight class, entering with a 41-10 season record. Brown mades his second consecutive appearance at the Missouri State Tournament while wrestling for Wentworth Military Academy, in Lexington, Missouri.

Senior Jarek Brown secured a spot in the Semifinals after winning his first two matches in the tournament. In the first match, Brown defeated Barrett Pierce from Principia (10-0). In his second match, Brown pinned Luke Staton from Carrollton (1:31). Brown is the first back-to-back state qualifier for the Red Dragons under the directions of Coach Reickard.

Brown lost his semifinal match to Andrew Martin of Holden by major decision (MD 10-0). The loss placed Brown in the Class 1 Fourth-Round Wrestlebacks segment, which began at 10 AM on Saturday morning. Jarek was defeated by Caleb Schroeder (Fatima) by decision (Dec 2-0). Brown would then wrestle at noon in the fifth-place match against Dalton Schmidt, also from Versailles. Schmidt defeated Brown by fall (Fall 3:26).

The final loss at the MSHSAA Wrestling Championship Tournament allowed Brown to secure a sixth-place medal for the 152 weight class. Brown is the first Wentworth wrestler to place at the State Tournament in 28 years. The last wrestler for Wentworth to place at the tournament was John McQuigg in 1988, who earned his medal in the Heavyweight division.
