MT. PLEASANT - Track and field returned to Mapleleaf Athletic Complex in Mt. Pleasant on Thursday night, when the Panthers hosted their first invitational of the season, a co-ed meet.
Among the squads Mt. Pleasant welcomed in were a trifecta of Union area teams, Fairfield, Washington and Mid-Prairie.
The Panther girls picked up an early victory in the field events, when Jadan Brumbaugh continued her hot streak in the shot put competition, taking her home competition in flying colors.
The Mt. Pleasant junior bested the field with a throw of 40 feet, eight inches, giving her the win and Mt. Pleasant an early boost in the team points.
'I'm feeling pretty good,” said Brumbaugh. 'I'm starting to get the technique back, and feeling good about the season so far.”
Going in to the night, Brumbaugh was Top-5 in the state in the shot put. She is one of just four Iowa high school throwers to eclipse the 40-foot mark this season.
Brumbaugh says she is excited to be back in action after losing a season due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. She was a state qualifier when she was a freshman.
'I was pretty upset about losing the season last year,” Brumbaugh said. 'But coming back and getting back into it is exciting.”
