Bruner takes 2nd at tournament

DES MOINES - It was a very successful two days for Kiki Guo Bruner.
Bruner spent two days on the Willow Creek Golf Course June 8-9.
Bruner carded a 79 on her first day on the course and then fired a 74 on the second day. Par for the course was 73.
Bruner was participating in an Iowa PGA Junior tournament for girls aged 16-18. Her two-day score of 153 left her two shots out of winning the tournament. Paige Hoffman of West Des Moines shot a 77-74 for a 151 total, edging Bruner by two strokes. Grace Butler of Arnold Park was third at 82-74 for a 156 total.
The 74 was the best score of the tournament.
Bruner and Hoffman had the most birdies in the tournament with seven each.
Bruner opened the tournament with three bogeys in her first four holes then had her worst score on the sixth hole, scoring a double-bogey seven on a par five. She bogeyed the next three holes for a 44 score on her opening nine holes. She would only have six bogeys in the rest of the tournament combined - 27 holes remaining.
She closed her opening day with three birdies and a bogey to shoot a 35 on the back nine, which had a par of 37.
Her second day's front nine featured a birdie on the second hole, then two bogeys, four pars and a bogey to shoot a 38 on the par 36 front nine, a six-shot improvement over the previous day. Her back nine saw three birdies and two bogeys for a 36 total.
For the round, Bruner was plus five on the par-3 holes, plus three on the par 4s and minus one on the par 5s.
Bruner had the third-best bogey free streak in the tournament, which was seven holes. She accomplished that from holes 10-16 during her first round. The best streak was 10.
Bruner had the best scoring average (35.5, which is minus 1.5) on the back nine holes. She second best was Hoffman's 38, which is plus one.
Bruner was a sophomore at Washington High School this past year.
