SIGOURNEY — It’s a clash of Southeast Iowa’s Class 1A titans on Friday night, as No. 9 Mediapolis visits the snake pit to take on a red-hot Sigourney-Keota team that is fresh off a district title.
Mediapolis comes into the game 8-1, riding a four-game winning streak into the Class 1A Round of 16. Sigourney-Keota lost its first two games of the season, but since has won seven-straight for a 7-2 record.
The two teams have had their share of clashes over the past five years. Mediapolis knocked off SK 41-33 in 2018 and 28-6 in 2019, but the Cobras got their revenge in 2020, via a 31-14 victory.
SK has gotten it done on the ground all year, rushing for 2,645 years and 37 touchdowns. Cole Clarahan is into the quadruple digits, as he’s gone for 1,115 yards and 19 touchdowns. Isaac Bruns is up to 480 yards and four scores.
Along with running for 365 yards and a touchdown, Sawyer Stout has led the Cobras’ passing game with 24 completions for 501 yards and eight touchdowns.
Mediapolis pounds the ball as well, as the Bulldogs have rushed for 2,6-2 yards and 33 touchdowns on the year. Running back Anthony Isley has been terrific this year, going for 1,341 yards and 18 scores.
Mediapolis quarterback Ben Egan serves as a dual threat. He has passed for 486 yards and nine touchdowns this year, but has also scampered for 309 yards and seven scores on the ground.
The winner of Mediapolis and Sigourney-Keota will be one game away from the UNI-Dome. The Bulldogs or Cobras will face either Woodward-Granger or No. 1 Van Meter in the quarterfinals.
