Burlington leads Washington late
THURSDAY/FRIDAY AREA BASEBALL ROUNDUP
WASHINGTON – Top of the seventh inning and Washington trails visiting Burlington in a Southeast Conference baseball game Thursday. Thunder is heard and lightning seen and that is the end of play on the diamond.
In what was to be the first of two games, Washington trailed 4-2 with one Grayhound on base and two outs when the game was suspended. If the schools are able to schedule a date agreeable to both, the game will be resumed and another played. If not, the score will revert to the end of the sixth inning and Burlington will be a 3-2 winner.
Trailing the Grayhounds 2-0, Kole Williams plastered a pitch past the fence for a Demon home run in the fourth inning. A Grayhound solo shot in the top of the fifth countered and it was 3-1. Ethan Patterson slapped an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth and it was 3-2.
Ethan Zieglowsky started for the Demons and walked four with six hits but was lifted in the seventh inning for Williams.
Lucas Kroll and Reece Mayer each have hit four triples this season, tied for third in Class 3A.
Burlington (16-5) has a one-game lead in the conference race with a record of 11-1 to 10-2 for Fort Madison (16-4). Washington is 10-7 and 6-6 in the SEC and hosts another SEC team Monday when Keokuk visits.
