Burlington takes 2 from Mt. Pleasant tennis

It was a tough night for the Mt. Pleasant tennis teams as both teams fell against Southeast Conference rival Burlington on Monday. The Panther boys fell 5-3 and the girls lost 8-1.
The Mt. Pleasant boys had a chance to even the score with the first-place Grayhounds and jump into a tie for first place in the SEC in doing so, but the Panthers lost a heartbreaker on the road.
Mt. Pleasant scooped up two wins in singles. Jake Ensminger swept in the No. 2 singles game, winning 7-5 and 6-2. Elliot Cook swept as well, taking the No. 5 match 6-6 (7-3), 7-5.
The Panthers had some tough losses in singles. Owen Vansickel fell in the No. 1 game 6-3, 6-3. Levi Graber lost in three sets, falling 6-3, 0-6, 10-6 in the No. 3 game. No. 4 Lincoln Henriksen fell in three as well, dropping his match 6-1, 3-6, 10-5, and Tim Cam lost the No. 6 game 7-5, 6-4.
Mt. Pleasant still had a shot if they could sweep doubles. The No. 2 team of Graber and Henriksen pulled out an 8-6 win, but the No. 1 team of Vansickel and Ensminger was edged out 9-7. The No. 3 doubles game was rained out.
The Mt. Pleasant girls had just one win in a home matchup with the Grayhounds. Savana Walls dominated in the No. 1 match, winning 8-2.
In other singles matches, Melanie Olivas lost 8-4 in the No. 2 match. No. 3 Gisele Fajardo lost 8-0. No. 4 Malena Yocum lost 8-6. No. 5 Eliana dropped her match 8-0, and No. 6 Eva Rounceville fell 8-1.
The Panther girls were swept in doubles. The No. 1 squad of Walls and Olivas fell 9-7. The No. 2 team of Fajardo and Yocum was shut out 8-0, as was the No. 3 team of Situmeang and Victoria Smith.
