Highland senior Sarah Burton and Columbus junior Lily Coil were both honored by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association last week, with each being named to the Southeast All-District girls basketball teams after a couple of stellar seasons on the hardwood this winter.
Burton was one of 10 players named to the Class 1A team. Coil was one of 13 named to the Class 2A squad.
Burton was a walking double-double this season, pacing the Huskies with 16.2 points per game and 14.2 rebounds per game. She also led the team with 2.8 assists per game, 3.8 steals per game and 2.5 blocked shots per game.
Before a season-ending injury, Coil led the Wildcats in scoring, with 14.9 points per game. She was also the team leader with 10.3 rebounds per game, 3.2 assists per game, 5.7 steals per game and 0.8 blocked shots per game.
Coil and the Wildcats finished the year 15-7, more than doubling the school’s win total from last season. It was Columbus’ best record since 2014-15.
