The spring season is underway and area teams are heading to the pitch or the track or the course.
The Washington High School boys and girls track teams host a 3:30 p.m. meet today at Case Field. Area teams scheduled to attend are Mid-Prairie, WACO, Highland and Columbus. Other teams will be Fairfield, Ft. Madison, Iowa City Liberty, Mason City, Mt. Pleasant and Wapello.
The Demons girls soccer team opened its season at Iowa City Liberty Tuesday and lost 3-0. The Demons play at Southeast Conference foe Keokuk today.
The Demon boys host Keokuk today. Both the boys and girls play Mediapolis Saturday in Washington. The girls match is scheduled for 9 a.m. The boys is set for 10:30 a.m.
Both boys and girls golf teams start their respective seasons today. The boys play host to Southeast Conference foes Keokuk and Mt. Pleasant at Washington Golf and Country Club while the girls are at Keokuk.
The Columbus girls soccer team lost 2-1 to Mt. Pleasant Monday in Columbus Junction. Vanessa Mena scored the Wildcats' goal on an assist from Elizabeth Santos.
Columbus was scheduled to play at No. 9 Notre Dame today but due to the death of softball coach Tim Milder that was postponed to a later date that has yet to be determined. The Wildcat boys were also to play at No. 13 Notre Dame in today and that was postponed as well. The girls golf team home meet against Louisa-Muscatine for today was also postponed.
Columbus is still scheduled for a boys and girls doubleheader Friday at home against Mediapolis.
Highland soccer lost at home to Danville Tuesday, 4-1 and plays at No. 5 Iowa Mennonite School today. The Huskies golf teams play Lone Tree today at Blue Top Ridge.
Mid-Prairie's boys soccer team plays at West Liberty today. Mid-Prairie's girls soccer team's first match is at home against Washington Apr. 9. The girls track team runs Friday at Clear Creek-Amana.
Keota's golf season opened Monday against Sigourney and the Eagles play today at Lagos Acres against North Mahaska. The boys track team runs at Pekin today.
