Busy Saturday in boys wrestling

It was another busy weekend in boys wrestling, as tournaments took place at Fort Madison, Iowa City Regina and Central Dewitt
Area squads meet in Fort Madison
There were 22 different schools at Fort Madison’s home tournament, and a handful of Union area teams were in attendance.
Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union was the top Union team, finishing seventh. Washington was eighth. Van Buren County took 15th. New London was 16th, and Highland finished 20th.
Columbus/WMU didn’t have anyone in a championship, but the Wildcats had two wrestlers take third. Russel Coil was third at 285 pounds, and Ty Scorpil took third at 120 pounds.
The top Demon in the tournament was Aaron Boone, who took second at 120 pounds. That included a clash with Columbus-WMU’s Scorpil in the semifinals. Boone was defeated by CJ Davis of Notre Dame on via 5-2 decision in the finals.
Cade Greiner also took third in the 126-pound bracket for the Demons.
Van Buren County’s Dirk Boyles took second at 145 pounds. He beat Fort Madison’s Nolan Riddle 5-1 in the semifinals but fell to Notre Dame’s Blake Wilson on an 11-3 major decision in the final.
New London’s Dominic Lopez continued to dominate this season, winning the 160-pound final 2-0 over Josiah Schaetzle of Dubuque Hempstead.
Lopez had a ridiculous six technical falls on the day, including one over Washington’s Greiner in the semifinals.
Highland had a champion as well, as Carlos Valenzuela won the 132-pound bracket.
Valenzuela made the 132-pound championship by beating Solon’s Lawsin Sinnwell 7-1. In the finals, Valenzuela beat Aidan Kelly 12-1.
SK 3rd, Fairfield 5th at Regina
The Cobras and Trojans both had Top-5 finishes in Iowa City. Sigourney-Keota was third. Fairfield took 5th. WACO was sixth, and Mt. Pleasant took 14th.
Sigourney-Keota had three winners on the day, including Reanah Utterback, who took first at 106 pounds.
Utterback faced off with WACO’s Gage Samo in the championship match, beating him 2-0.
Brady Clark won the 126-pound bracket for SK. He won the title with a major decision over MFL MarMac’s Rylee Kugal, beating him 10-2.
Jack Clarahan took first in the 170-pound bracket. He pinned Daniel Gorskikh of Knoxville in the final match, beating him in 4 minutes, 49 seconds.
Fairfield’s Dain Burkhart won the 182-pound bracket for the Trojans’ only title of the day. Burkhart beat Iowa City Regina’s Ian Udell with a pinfall in 5:48.
WACO’s Louden Huisenga took first place in the 160-pound bracket. He defeated Cooper Gates of West Branch on a 1-0 decision to take first place.
Mt. Pleasant didn’t have any winners in Iowa City. Bowen Davis was the top Panther, taking fifth place at 145 pounds.
Mid-Prairie travels to Central DeWitt
Mid-Prairie took eighth in the Saber Invitational at Central DeWitt. The only Golden Hawks champion was Mose Yoder, at 113 pounds.
Yoder defeated Brayden Curtis of Cedar Rapids Jefferson in the 113-pound champion. He pinned Curtis in 2:56.
