Busy week for Trojan baseball
Fairfield’s busy 4-day stretch ends with pair of losses

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield baseball team was set to play four games in three days, but a rain out on Thursday broke the combo. Still, Fairfield had three non-conference games in that stretch, going 1-2.
On Wednesday, Fairfield took down Muscatine, 9-1, on the road. On Friday at Fairfield Middle School, the Trojans were downed 8-3 and 15-3 by Central Dewitt.
The game was tied 1-1 heading into the fourth inning on Wednesday, when Fairfield jumped on the Muskies with a three-run inning. The Trojans added one run in the fifth inning and four more in the sixth.
Dain Burkhart had a big night, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Luke Konczaal was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Aiden Westercamp went 2-for-4 with aa double and two RBIs. Cason Miller was 2-for-4 with double and two RBIs.
Tallon Bates had a double and an RBI at the plate, and also pitched a complete game. Bates gave up just one hit all night, and struck out six batters.
The Trojans led 1-0 against Central Dewitt in Game 1 on Friday. The Sabres stormed back to score the next eight runs, and the Trojans ran out of innings to get them back.
Burkhart went 3-for-3 with a double. Caden Allison knocked in two runs, and bates Knocked in one. Aidan Krueter had a double and two runs scored.
Four Trojans saw the mound in the loss. Westercamp, Nate Konczal, Archer Kreuter and Allison all pitched.
The Sabres were too powerful in Game 2, scoring 15 runs over six innings to end the game early.
Westercamp went off in the game, going 3-for-3 with a solo home run. Aidan Kreuter was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Ethan Bisgard was 1-for-3 with a double, and Bates knocked in one run.
Once again, the Trojans used a revolving door of pitchers in Game 2. Voss Richardson, Archer Kreuter, Aidan Kreuter, Landon Nodurft and Cason Miller all had hits.
Fairfield led 1-0 over Washington on Thursday when the game was postponed to a later date. Going into Monday night’s doubleheader against Mt. Pleasant, the Trojans sit at 13-6.
