Busy weekend area wrestling

Several wrestling teams from around Southeast Iowa participated in tournaments Saturday. Here are the results from this past weekend.
57th Willard Howell Invitational: Mt. Pleasant, Columbus/WMU/Lone Tree, Highland
Bowen Davis was the highest finisher for the Mt. Pleasant Panthers, finishing as the runner-up at 138 pounds. Davis fell to Wilton’s Owen Milder 6-1.
Frank Tousignant finished third at 285 with a win over Wapello’s Kekai Seumanutafa and Gannon McNamee grabbed a fifth-place finish with a victory over Columbus/WMU’s Jacob Briones.
For Columbus/WMU/Lone Tree, Lane Scorpil got himself a fist place podium finish at 120 pounds, defeating Davenport West’s Ayden Nicklaus.
Ty Scorpil picked up a second-place finish at 113 pounds. Lane Genkinger, Kai Malone and Ethan Palmer all finished third at 152, 220 and 195 respectively.
The team also had four other wrestlers secure a placement.
Sigourney-Keota had four wrestlers finish a top the bracket. Cade Molyneux, 160, Jack Clarahan, 170, Aidan Schuster, 182 and Conner Reed, 220, all were top place finishers.
Molyneux pinned Iowa Valley, Marengo’s Nathaniel Miller 2:43 seconds into the match. Clarahan went the distance with Ronan Peach of Iowa Valley, Marengo, winning 6-5. Shuster won by fall over Wilton’s Kaden Shirk and Reed defeated Wilton’s Tyrrell Hughes by fall 5:38 seconds into the match.
Garisin Hynick picked up a second-place finish at 152 pounds.
Five other Sigourney-Keota wrestlers place in the tournament.
Highland Riverside had just one top three finisher in the form of Carlos Valenzuela, who picked up a third-place finish at 132 pounds.
Sigourney-Keota, as a team finished second in the tournament with a score of 148. Columbus/WMU/Lone Tree picked up a fourth-place finish with a score of 119. Mt. Pleasant finished tenth with 35 points and Highland finished twelfth with 17 points.
Bob Murphy Varsity Invitational: Fairfield
For the Trojans, Theodore Metcalf picked up a second-place finish.
Cason Miller picked up a third-place finish at 132 over Lane Rolfs of Decorah, 5-0.
Ben Sirdoreus finished fifth at 126, with a victory over West Delaware, Manchester’s Hadyn Schulte.
At 220, Cesar Smithburg won his round two consolation match and Grady Flynn was victorious in his round three consolation match.
Fairfield finished in eleventh as a team with 61 points.
Jeremy Fulk Classic: New London, WACO, Mid-Prairie
New London wrestlers dominated in the tournament.
Five Tigers finished a top the bracket. Mavy Pope at 120, Marcel Lopez at 132, Dominic Lopez at 160, Josh Glendening at 182 and Trent Wilkerson at 195 all picked up first place finishes.
Pope found himself atop the bracket with a 10-4 finish over BGM, Brooklyn’s Briar Kriegel. Marcel Lopez will look for another state title this season, he defeated Landry Gingerich of Mid-Prairie by tech-fall 25-10. Dominic Lopez was also victorious by tech-fall against Ryan Hopwood of BGM, Brooklyn winning 24-9. Glendening beat Romen Young of Cedar Rapids Washington by fall 1:38 into the match. Wilkerson defeated WACO’s Drew Diers 49 seconds into the matchup by fall.
Gage Burden and Corbin Jacobs-Jewell both added third place finishes and Kyler Dettmers finished sixth.
WACO had two wrestlers finish first overall. Gage Samo, 106, and Jonah Clark, 220, both finished first.
Four other Warriors ended with second place finishes. Larz Smith, 138, Louden Huisenga, 145, Kris Boone, 170 and Drew Diers, 195, were all runner ups.
Seven other WACO wrestlers placed in the tournament.
Mid-Prairie had just one wrestler finish first.
Mose Yoder defeated Cedar Rapids Washington’s Nathaniel Velez by fall to take the crown.
Cael Garvey and Landry Gingerich both added second place finishes at 220 and 132.
Twelve other Golden Hawks placed in the tournament.
Mid-Prairie finished second in the tournament with a score of 145.5. WACO followed in third, 138, and New London fourth, 123.
Bill Rex invitational: Pekin, Cardinal, Van Buren County
Pekin’s Nolan Greiner was the lone Panther to finish first overall at 160. Greiner picked up a 59 second pin against North Mahaska’s Austin McMahan.
Blake Juhl and Ryan Doud both added second place finishes at 170 and 182. Gannon Greiner and Gavyn Brown both added third place finishes at 120 and 152 respectively.
Van Buren County ‘s Brant Tedrow got himself a first place finish, defeating North Mahaska’s Ashton Meland at 220 pounds.
Three other Warriors picked up second place finishes. Dirk Boyles, 145, Darrin Coffman, 160 and Noah Cochran, 195.
Four other Warriors also placed.
Tristin Cloke and Mason Shepherd both finished sixth for Cardinal at 145 and 126 pounds.
Van Buren County ended the tournament with a fourth-place finish at 106 points. Pekin ended in sixth, 80 points, and Cardinal finished in ninth, 32 points.
