Butters doubles up for Mid-Prairie

Tom Butters produced a double-double in a Mid-Prairie conference victory while JD Stout scored 28 for the second consecutive game Saturday but the Eagles lost a high school boys basketball game for the second time in as many days.
Wapello 59, Keota 54
This nonconference game was a back-and-forth affair at Wapello.
Keota led 19-14 after the first quarter, trailed 26-25 at halftime, led 44-40 after the third quarter, but were outscored 19-10 in the last period.
Stout was 6 of 12 on 3-pointers in the game. Luke Hammen added 14 points, making 4 of 11 3-pointers. Justin Moeller led the Eagles with seven rebounds while Brady Duwa had four assists and four steals.
Keota is 5-4 and plays at South Iowa Cedar League opponent Montezuma today. Montezuma is ranked second in Class 1A.
WACO 72, Winfield-Mt. Union 36
This Southeast Iowa Super Conference game was a non-division match at Winfield. The visitors pulled away from a 17-12 score at the end of the first quarter to lead 46-25 at halftime.
Nik Coble produced 22 points on 8 of 13 field goals including 3 of 4 on 3-pointers, 3 of 4 free throws, six rebounds, four steals and two assists. Drew Kissell downed 12 points and dished six assists. Elijah McGowan added 13 points and four assists. Colton Horak distributed four assists and pilfered five steals.
WACO is 6-2 and plays at No. 4 (Class 1A) New London today.
Mid-Prairie 56, Bellevue 54
The Golden Hawks eked out the home River Valley Conference win by outscoring the visitors 17-11 in the final quarter and won on a last-second shot.
Butters nailed the hoop for 24 points and hammered the boards for 17 rebounds. He went 10 of 16 from the field, 4 of 6 at the foul line, snagged 12 defensive rebounds and swiped a pair of steals. Cale Robertson added 14 points while Brad Tornow had seven assists and six points.
Mid-Prairie is 4-3 overall and 3-3 in the league. The Golden Hawks play at Wilton tonight.
