Butters’ monster double-double not enough in Golden Hawks’ loss

It is not often a player scores in the 20s with a rebound total in the 20s, but it happened as area high school basketball play continued Saturday after the Christams break.
Anamosa 73, Mid-Prairie 66
In a road River Valley Conference boys game, the Golden Hawks and the Blue Raiders each scored the same amount of points in the final three quarters, but the home team led 26-18 after the first quarter.
Mid-Prairie's Tom Butters went 8 of 12 from the field and 10 of 10 at the free-throw line on his way to 26 points. He had eight offensive rebounds and 15 defensive boards for a total of 23 rebounds in the game.
Anamosa as a team only totaled 21 rebounds.
Cale Robertson added 12 points for Mid-Prairie. Brad Tornow had seven points, five rebounds and four assists.
Anamosa is 6-5. Mid-Prairie is 5-6 and hosts Durant tonight.
Mid-Prairie 43, Anamosa 41
The Golden Hawk girls won the road conference game with a 14-9 advantage in the fourth quarter.
Shae Becker scored 15 points, took down 10 rebounds and doled out four assists before fouling out. Mid-Prairie teammate Myah Lugar also had 10 rebounds while scoring nine points. Maddie Nonnenmann pitched in 11 points with four boards.
Mid-Prairie is 8-4 and hosts Durant tonight.
Louisa-Muscatine 43, Keota 36
The Eagles lost at home when the the Falcons took a 13-7 lead after the first quarter. Keota closed to within 21-18 by the half but trailed 33-25 starting the fourth.
Addison Sprouse had 16 points, going 4 of 5 on 3-pointers. Keota teammate Paige Thompson had eight points and six rebounds.
Keota is 4-10 and hosts HLV tonight.
