Cardinal 2nd, Van Buren 5th at Warrior boys Invitational

KEOSAUQUA - A pair of area teams were at the Van Buren County track on Thursday night for a boys track meet. Cardinal took second place at the Warrior boys' invitational, scoring 132 points, which was 30 behind first-place Davis County. Hosting Van Buren took fifth, at 78.

Cardinal's Griffin Greiner gave his team a boat load of points with the rare triple win in the sprints. Greiner won the 100-meter dash in 11.54 seconds, the 200-meter dash in 23.59 seconds and the 400-meter dash in 51.17 seconds to sweep the short-distance individual races.

Cardinal had one relay win. The shuttle hurdle team of Ian Liles, Karson Kirkpatrick, Gavin Grove and Konnor Sanders took first in 1:29.27.

The Comets had one win in the field. Alec Rachford topped the shot put standings with a throw of 38 feet, 3-and-a-half inches.

Cardinal also had two second-place finishes on the day. Gavin Grove took the 3200, crossing the tape in 10:06.23, and Rachford took second in the discus throw with a 98-08.5.

Van Buren County won one event on the day, and it came in the field. Lane Davis was victorious in the high jump, leaping 6 feet exactly to scoop up some points for the Warriors.

Davis also took second in the 110-meter high hurdles, getting the silver with a final time of 16.80 seconds. The 4X200 team of Logan Shipley, Sam Warth, Owen Loeffler and Tyler Stoltz also took second, finishing in 1:45.33.
