Cardinal baseball rolls past Winfield-Mount Union

WINFIELD - It was all Cardinal in the season-opening baseball game at Winfield-Mount Union High School on Monday. The Comets beat the Wolves 15-0(4) in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference crossover.
Cardinal wasted no time in putting up runs. The Comets scored nine in the first inning, five in the third and one in the fourth.
Drake Durflinger finished 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs to lead Cardinal. Blaine Bryant went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Dawson Lewis was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Josh Courtney and Chance Randolph combined to throw a one-hitter for the Comets. Courtney threw three no-hit innings and finished with six strikeouts. Randolph gave up one hit and one walk.
Lane Genkinger and Nick Crow shared time on the mound for Winfield-Mount Union.
