Cardinal boys take Indian Lake Invite

FARMINGTON - Both Cardinal and Van Buren County were in at Indian Lake on Tuesday for a meet hosted by VBC. The Cardinal boys were the big winners on the day, taking home the team championship.
The Comet boys scored 49 points on the night, four better than second-place Central Lee. Cardinal took second in the girls' race, scoring 47 points, which was 16 back from first-place Clarke County, Missouri. VBC didn't have enough runners to score in either.
Cardinal had three runners in the top six, with Gavin Grove taking fourth, in 18:44, Karson Kirkpatrick getting fifth, in 19:41, and Gunner Zugg placing sixth, in 19:50. The fourth runner for Cardinal was Nick Walker, who crossed the tape in 22:24 for 16th. Landon Gordy placed 18th, with a time of 22:44.
VBC's Ian Peacock had the best time for either Union area boys team, taking third place in 18:34. He was the only Warrior runner competing.
Cardinal ended the girls race with three runners in the Top-10. Alexia McClure placed fifth, in 23:21. Caitlyn Reber took sixth, in 23:34, and Allison Sloan placed ninth, in 24:19. Cardinal's other scorers were Aracelli Tapetillo (24:46), who took 12th place, and Ava Ferrell (25:38), who placed 15th.
VBC had just two runners in the race but they both placed in the Top-10. Faith Neeley led all area runners by taking fourth, in 22:36, and Emma Cochenhour was 10th, in 24:38.
