Cardinal boys win Pekin Invitational
The Cardinal High School boys? track team won the Class 2 portion of the Pekin Invitational Thursday in Packwood.

The Cardinal High School boys? track team won the Class 2 portion of the Pekin Invitational Thursday in Packwood.
The Comets competed against Keota, Sigourney and Albia. First place individual finishes for the Comets were Josh Ramos (discus), Conner McElderry (shot put), Charlie Rachford (long jump, 200-meter dash), Tyler Albert (110-meter high hurdles, 400-meter hurdles) and Trevor Albert in the 1600-meter run.
Cardinal also finished first in two different relay races. The shuttle hurdle team, consisting of Rachford, Tyler Albert, Trenton Durflinger and Justin Conger finished with the time of 1:06.50. The 4x400-meter relay, consisting of Quinn Honomichl, Bryce Benedict, Marcus Olson and Trevor Albert, won with the time of 3:57.08
Adam Giltner finished second in the shot put and Honomichl finished second in the 400-meter dash. McElderry also finished third in the discus. Conger took home third in the 110-meter high hurdles and Chance Gustafson finished third in the 800-meter race.
Class 1 at the meet consisted of Pekin, Van Buren, North Mahaska and Tri-County.
?A small meet is nice for all teams,? Pekin boys? track coach Davis Eidahl said. ?Everyone runs, everyone medals, and everyone will get to run two or three events. [Pekin] had a great effort tonight.
Chase Copeland won the 100-meter dash with the time of 11.30. His teammate Trevor Northup finished second.
Tyler Copeland won the 200-meter dash with the final time of 24.34. Sheldon Dewitt of Van Buren finished second and Zac Buller of Pekin finished third.
Pekin?s Malcolm Myers won the 3200-meter run, and was followed in order by Pekin?s Clayton Essary and Van Buren runners Tyler Runyon, Dalton Haynes and Tom Fitzsimmons.
Pekin won the 4x100, 4x200, 4x800 and distance medley relay races. Van Buren took home the 4x100 relay title.
Dewitt, Garrett Saunders and Jessie Fuller each recorded individual wins for Van Buren. Pekin?s Eric Adam and Jared Bond each won field events for Pekin.
