ELDON — Cardinal boys basketball suffered its fourth loss of the season on Monday night with a down to the wire loss to Sigourney, 65-62.
The Comets have played in some tough ones in the early season and Monday night was no different.
Cardinal put together an efficient first half of basketball against the Savages as they led 23-18 after one. At the half, the Comets trailed just one, 32-31, after the Savages won the second 14-8.
The Comets shot 50 percent from the field in the first half.
In the third, Cardinal yet again found some momentum as Archer Metcalf and Montana Rupe in large part helped the Comets pull back in front with a 19-14 quarter to lead 50-46.
Sigourney would not let up.
With just over 2:30 left on the clock the Savages drilled a trio of three pointers to push the Sigourney lead to 60-57.
In the final moments down three, 65-62, Metcalf got a good look from three with a shot to send the game to overtime, but his shot rimed out. The Comets got the offensive board, but time expired.
Cardinal will play Davis County (2-4) on Tuesday.
