LEON — The Cardinal football team played under the Thursday night lights this week at Central Decatur, and the Cardinals played just as well as they do on Fridays.
The Comets scored a 28-10 win over the Cardinals, a win that moved them to 4-0 on the season.
The Comets had to bounce back after a rough offensive first half. Cardinal's lead was just 8-3 at the break.
Central Decatur scored once in the third quarter and briefly held a 10-8 lead, but the Comets put up the next 20 points of the contest.
Maddux Jones had three touchdowns on the night, two to Landon Becker and one to Griffin Greiner. Ian Liles had one rushing touchdown.
Cardinal is now 4-0 overall and 1-0 in district play. They’ll host a Van Buren County team (2-2, 0-1) that had to forfeit its district opener against Pella Christian due to COVID-19 related reasons. That game will be Cardinal’s homecoming game.
