DONNELLSON ? The Comet girls? track team loaded up all the right relays on its way to one of the best team performances of the season Thursday.
Running at the Southeast Iowa Superconference meet in Donnellson, the Comets won three relays and wound up in fourth place in the team standings.
The Comets scored a total of 66 points to take third. West Burlington/Notre Dame topped the SEISC field with 133 points and Danville finished second with 113.
Relay wins came from Alexis Adam, Liz Nichols, Lindsay Albert and Jordan Smith in both the 4x100 (54.27) and 4x200 (1:53.34); plus the sprint medley relay featuring Nichols, Albert, Smith and Andrea Kayser (1:58.32). Smith also posted an individual victory in the 400-meter dash (1:01).
Runner-up finishes came from the Comets? shuttle hurdle relay (1:16.88) as well as Danielle Wycoff in the 400-meter hurdles (1:12.97).
Truro will be the district site for the Cardinal girls? team next Thursday.
Haynes wins twice
DONNELLSON ? Bad weather prevented Van Buren from finishing the conference meet, but not before junior Hanna Haynes became conference champ in two events.
Haynes won both the 100- and 400-meter hurdles, and the Warriors scored 58 points to finish sixth out of eight teams.
Unity Daugherty finished second in the 1,500 and 3,000 races. The shuttle hurdle relay featuring Jansen Heckenberg, Jordan Billups, Steph Woodruff and Allison Dickinson finished third, as did Haynes in the long jump.
The Warriors continue the season with districts in Tipton Thursday.
