ELDON - The Cardinal girls basketball team scored the final four points of the ballgame, all in the last minute, on Tuesday night to nip WACO in a SEISC South Division game, 27-24. It was Cardinal's second win in a row after starting the season 0-3.
WACO's defense stifled Cardinal early. The Warriors led 6-0 after the first five minutes of play and held an 8-4 lead after one quarter.
Cardinal came back to temporarily take the lead in the second quarter, finishing a 10-2 run with three minutes left in the half to take a 10-8 advantage. WACO scored four of the last six points of the first half, however, and led 14-12 at the break.
The Comets took the lead back in the third quarter. The Comets won the third quarter 7-4 in the third quarter and held a 19-18 lead going into the final eight minutes.
WACO took back the lead again in the fourth quarter. The Warriors led 24-23 with just one minute left, but Cardinal grabbed the lead one last time and clunch on for a three-point win.
Maddie Cloke scored 11 points to lead Cardinal in the win. Alexia McClure had eight. Kolbie Bass, Ava Ferrell and Kinsey Hissem scored two points apiece.
