CEDAR RAPIDS — Cardinal High school graduate Trevor Albert bested his own fastest time Friday running for Grand View in the NAIA National Cross-Country Championships hosted at Seminole Valley Park.
Albert had previously set the Grand View record March 20 at the Mustang National Preview meet, running a time of 26 minutes, 7 seconds. He lowered that to 25:51 in helping the Vikings place 28th Friday.
The school’s eight kilometer record was 26:10 held by Jim Vonnahme, set in 2011 at the NAIA National Championships.
Albert holds the mile (4:38.64) and two-mile (10:02.73) records at Cardinal as well as the cross-country (16:00) record.
“Trevor is an amazing young man,” said Cardinal athletic director Chris Becker, whose first year at Cardinal was Albert’s senior year. "Trevor was very smart and a great leader. It comes with no surprise that he is excelling at Grand View. We are proud to call him a Comet.“
