Cardinal leads area at L&M girls tournament

LOUISA — Five area girls wrestling teams battled at the Louisa-Muscatine girls tournament on Saturday. Cardinal led the Union area squads, scoring 145 for third place.
The Comets were led by 105-pounder Abigail Durflinger, who finished second place. Durflinger picked up a pair of pins before falling in the first place match.
Cardinal had one other Top-3 finisher, as Ajaah Cox was third at 155 pounds. Her only loss on the day was a sudden victory defeat in the semifinals.
Columbus/Winfield-Mount Union had two wrestlers finish second. Quinn Smith picked up a pair of pins en route to a silver medal at 130 pounds, and Josie Nelson had two pins and took second at 140.
Jana Isanta finished third at 120 pounds. She collected three pins on the day.
Pekin had two Top-3 finishers. Hailey Pedrick took second at 135 pounds and Lexa Nelson was third at 105.
Fairfield’s Samantha Lyons had a huge day, winning the 170 pounds bracket. Lyons won three matches on the day, including a 6-1 decision against Reece Shrader of Bettendorf in the 170-pound championship.
Mt. Pleasant had three wrestlers competing. The Panthers did not have anyone place.
