Jones throws 5 TD passes for Comets in road victory

DONNELLSON — For the second week of the 2020 season the Cardinal Comets nearly matched the first week’s score of 70, but did match the touchdown total of nine and came up with 66 points while allowing seven points to Central Lee.
The 66-7 score was the result of 365 total yards of offense as Maddux Jones went 12-of-18 for 263 yards passing and five touchdowns.
The Comet defense gave up just 53 total yards. Tristin Cloke had two tackles for loss while Logan Walters, Issac Cox, Ian Liles and Griffin Greiner each had one. Central Lee was 3-for-21 throwing the ball with a touchdown and an interception.
Liles opened the scoring with a two-yard run, the first of his three rushing touchdowns. Blaine Bryant, Isaac Lett and Landon Becker each caught a scoring pass from Jones. Greiner caught two touchdowns and three other passes for a total of 99 yards receiving.
Jones was the leading rusher with 60 yards on five carries. Cardinal never punted while Central lee punted seven times with one returned for a touchdown.
Cardinal is 2-0 and hosts a 1-1 Davis County team Friday. Central Lee is 0-2.
